Chapter 5 She's My Sister

Markus' hand on his knee tightened, and he looked at her coldly. He closed his eyes and stopped communicating with her.

Serena also stopped talking.

When she calmed down, she recalled what he had just said.

He said that to stabilize congenital heart disease, there was an old device that had the same effect.

What device?

She had just been too angry to retort to him and hadn't heard it.

"Ahem! Ahem!"

She pretended to cough a few times to try to get the attention of the man in the back seat.

He didn't respond the first time.

The second time, she coughed harder.

"Ahem!"

"Do you have pneumonia?"

Markus in the back seat couldn't resist making a sound.

Serena resisted cursing.

"No, I just choked on my saliva."

"By the way, Mr. Wheatley, what did you say that old device was called?"

She asked as softly as she could.

"I forget." Markus didn't want to say more.

Serena's grip on the steering wheel tightened, and she said patiently, "Will you think about it again?"

"I can't think about this kind of thing even more if I'm forced to."

Markus' fingers tapped on his lap, "If I hear some good news and am in a happy mood, I might remember."

Some good news?

Serena grasped the point and said tentatively, "Mr. Wheatley, you asked Owen to give me the divorce papers before. I am thinking why don't you ask him to give me another copy? Also, about the divorce papers, why don't we do it within the next couple of days? I still don't want the money. But please keep what you promised me."

Markus looked at her with raised eyebrows.

He didn't give an immediate response, nor did he refuse.

It seemed to Serena that he acquiesced.

"If you don't say anything, I'll assume you agree. How about tomorrow?"

Markus still didn't respond to her.

He took hold of his phone directly and texted Owen.

"Send someone to look into the Toland family."

It seemed to him that Serena was obsessed with wanting Wheatley Hospital's equipment for treating heart disease.

After daytime contact with her, he knew exactly what her general personality was.

She was aggressive, didn't know how to restrain herself, and didn't know how to behave.

Would such a person be tolerant?

But she repeatedly humbled herself for the sake of the sick man.

It was clear that the sick person was very important to her.

Serena's year-long marriage to him was not intended by either party. He also had no interest in the background of the Toland family.

But that sick man aroused his interest.

He wanted to know what kind of person could make a hedgehog put away its thorns.

He was curious!

Shortly after, Owen returned the message.

"I'll arrange for someone to look into it right away."

Owen sent another video.

Markus clicked on it and saw that it was a small book.

The book recorded some daily chores.

Markus did not look at it carefully and turned off the video.

Owen sent another message, "Mr. Wheatley, Ms. Toland left this book behind. Do you need to return it to her?"

Markus glanced up at the driver and typed back with long fingers, "No."

It was fifty minutes past one in the morning.

Serena was not going at a constant speed because she was getting sleepy.

A twenty-kilometer journey would normally take half an hour to drive.

But it took her only fifteen minutes to reach Markus' private house.

When she stopped, she was about to speak when she heard the sound of even breathing.

She turned her head and saw that the man was sleeping deeply.

Serena was speechless.

She was particularly sleepy, and he was sleeping comfortably!

"The wicked capitalist..."

Serena muttered, unbuckling her seat belt and getting out of the car.

She left him and the car in front of the Wheatley's Mansion and headed back to the Western District.

Getting out of the cab at the Huhill Road exit, she called Alyvia.

"Asleep? Or at the garage?"

"The garage! I don't know what happened. But all of a sudden, there were so many cars in the middle of the night!" Alyvia's helpless voice was heard.

"Are you fixing them yourself?" Serena asked casually.

"Yes."

"Do you want to come out for a late-night snack to keep your spirits up and keep working for money?"

"Sure. Wait for me at the usual place! Soon!"

Serena arrived at the late-night restaurant she used to go to with Alyvia. The owner recognized her right away.

"Ma'am, I haven't seen you here for a while. I was wondering if you had moved away?"

"I've been a little busy with work lately. I came here when I had time."

After chatting with the owner for a few minutes, Serena sat down.

She glanced at the time. It took ten minutes to drive from the garage to here.

She picked up the beer on the table and opened one straight away to quench her thirst.

She saw an acquaintance sitting at the next table.

It was her half-sister, Rachel Toland.

She was drinking with some male students with a bottle of wine.

Serena snorted, trying to pretend she didn't see her and keep drinking.

But Rachel noticed her.

"Excuse me."

She pushed aside the two boys who had their arms around her waist and walked towards Serena with a freshly opened bottle of beer.

"Serena, why haven't you been home for so long?"

Rachel's voice was sweet, with a long white dress and thick hair.

She looked like a lady.

Provided, of course, that one ignored the beer in her hand at the moment and tattooed, dyed-hair boys at the table.

"If I go back, your mother will have to cry all day."

Serena tilted her head and took a sip of her beer, laughing.

Rachel's eyes immediately went red. "Serena, why do you have to be like this? We all love you so much, and Mom has always seen you as her real child..."

Serena frowned, and the corners of her mouth twitched as she listened to Rachel's hypocritical words.

Rachel's eyes were filled with tears. But they didn't fall and just rolled in her eyes.

Serena admired.

Rachel and her mother were good at putting on a show.

"Serena..." Rachel tugged at Serena's sleeve, her delicate voice, "Serena, don't be angry with us."

Serena yanked her shirt back as she looked at her coldly. "Are you done with your act?"

"I'm not... I was just trying to help Mom and Dad get you home." Rachel cried, looking aggravated.

Her sobbing voice attracted the male students who came with her.

"Rachel, what's wrong with you?"

"Why are you crying?"

"Who is bullying you?"

"We'll help you teach the person a lesson."

Serena looked at them with disdain, took her drink, and got up to go away from them to another table.

"Don't move." One of the stronger boys pressed her shoulder directly, pressing her toward the chair.

"Don't. She's my sister..."

Rachel stopped the boy.
