"Jane, please. Our son is dying. I can't see him suffer any much longer." the woman cried beside the tall man. Her long dark brown hair, like silk, fell down along her back. Her hair was very beautiful.
"My king, my Alpha, my mate is trying her best to treat your son. Please give her a few more days. The child's illness is not easy to treat." My father was almost begging as he look at the tall man.
King?
He must be the Lycan king mentioned by my parents earlier.
"My medicinal magic has never let me down. I promise you that I will cure your son's disease, which has always troubled him." My mother's voice was very sincere, although she looked a little afraid to speak.
"You should speed up then, Jane. My son can't die. He will be the next Lycan king after my husband.” The woman cried even more. “He is my only son. I can't lose him. You are my last hope. Save him, or I will let your entire family die with you. You are a witch. It's the greatest mercy for us to let you have children here."
"I know, and we have always been grateful to you. We will definitely do it as soon as possible, I promise," said by my mother while lowering her head.
I withdrew my head as I knew that it was not a good habit to eavesdrop, so I didn't continue to listen. Instead, I ran out of our house without worrying about the future of the little wolf prince.
I walked into the forest to collect herbs and plants. While doing that, I was careful as to not make any dirt ruin my pretty green dress. I hated anything ugly.
I don't know why, but I can accurately tell what kind of plant is poisonous and what kind of plant can be used for treatment.
As I walked on, there was a strange smell in the air.
Death. It was the smell of death… It was sweet and rotten.
For some reason, I was attracted by that smell. The more I walked, the stronger the smell of death became, and the further away I was from home.
I could only hope that no wolves could take the scent of me, they would surely not be happy to know a hybrid was lurking inside their territory.
I was far from home, this much I could tell.
But don't matter, no one will dare lay a finger on my beautiful self. If they do and ruin my dress I'll cast a spell to make their eyes melt.
Because I’m a strong witch and werewolf hybrid.
"Father..." a faint voice came through in the air. It was so low that it was almost inaudible, but I knew it was a boy's voice.
I walked to the grass not far from where I was, and it was covered with flowers. The flowers were so high that they reached my waist and they swayed with the breeze. That kind of flower could be used to refresh, but such a pretty scenery was destroyed by a deep hole in it.
That hole was where the boy lay.
I walked over there carefully and saw a wolf boy at his last gasp. A strong smell of death filled my nostrils.
He opened his eyes slightly and I can see his brown eyes.
"You're dying," I murmured. He was obviously stiff and had no strength to support himself to stand up.
"You don't belong here. You came to the wrong place." the boy lay on the ground and stared at me without fear as he spoke.
My eyes wandered from his eyes down to the wound on his body. He is a werewolf, and the wound should have been healed, but it didn’t. It meant to say that his wolf is very weak. So weak that it couldn’t even help him heal his small wound.
"If you want, I can cure it." I pointed at his wound and he also looked down to check it.
"It's useless. I'm poisoned and there was nothing that can cure me." He refused and coughed, blood flowing down from his palm.
"Drink it." I put the herbs I just collected into the potion made by my mother. Although the liquid medicine had a healing effect, I still feel that it needed an herb that I added.
"Whatever, I'm dying anyway." the boy took the medicine without much thought and drank it in one gulp.
I lowered my head to look at his wound. When it was as good as new, I smiled in victory.
"Okay." After saying that, I picked up my bag and was about to leave when he suddenly whimpered behind me.
"I feel my body burning.” He bent down in pain. I came to him quickly and lay him on the ground with him. His forehead was sweating and his face was as pale as paper, but the breath of death I was smelling slowly faded. I could feel that his wolf was getting stronger by every second.
"Does it still hurt?" I asked worriedly as he closed his eyes. But when he opened his eyes, his brown eyes were no longer empty as before, but full of vitality.
He nodded, still unable to speak, but I know he would survive.
"I'm leaving." it was getting dark. Mom would be worried if I went home too late, so I had to leave first. "You'll be fine, little brown wolf."
I heard some noise behind me, but I didn't hear it clearly. I just wanted to go home.
The strange thing was, the closer I was to home, the more familiar the smell of death became.
I have a bad feeling about it, and I will be home after I turn around on the tree near me.
I turned a corner. The small wooden house, which used to be warm and bright, was dark, and the pieces of furniture were scattered on the ground.
Then, I smelled blood.
"Mom? Dad?" I rushed into the house and opened the door, only to find that Dad and Mom were lying motionless in the pool of blood on the ground, and the pot that mom made medicine for the little wolf prince was overturned to the ground, but strangely, there was no drop of medicine in it.
I walked towards my parents' bodies with tears in my eyes, and my hands were trembling.
I kneeled beside them reaching over to touch their cold body. Dad was naked which meant that he had shifted into his wolf before dying.
A loud cry escapes my mouth as I come to term that I no longer had living parents, they were dead. "Mother, Father please come back. You cannot leave me here alone." I begged, shaking my mother.
It is then the image of a black wolf biting into father's neck bombards into my mind. I gasp in shock and the image quickly disappears.
The wolves. The wolves did this. They killed my parents. I snapped my eyes to the cauldron, noting that the scent of the potion was not strong enough. This meant mother had not had time to finish it.
The king and queen had killed my parents because mother failed to have the potion ready in time. They always treated mother like an outsider even though she did everything to appease their needs.
"I will avenge you father, mother. I will rid this world of the vicious kind that has killed you. They do not deserve mercy." I promised.
I hated those heartless dogs. Thinking, I snapped my eyes to the nearby wolfbane and gulf down all of it. Every cell burns in my body, but I don’t care. There’s a wolf in my body as well.
I need to kill it, suppress it, and let my wolf away from me. From now on, I was no longer a hybrid. I was only a witch, a human, who would seek revenge on the werewolf king when I was strong enough.
Tears fell on the back of my bloody hand. At that time, I heard a sound behind me. I turned around to see what that sound was about, but Bella suddenly woke up…
It was that dream again.
Bella didn't know which girl's dream it was, but she often dreamed about it. It was like another world.
In that world, there were werewolves, witches, and even magical creatures.
But the little girl inside that dream of hers was living a miserable life.
Bella rubbed her head and woke up from her dream, feeling headache and dry mouth.
But she was very happy tonight until that dream made her heart ache.
The perfume ‘First Love’ she had mixed for a long time finally succeeded. Tomorrow, she would participate in a competition. Once she win that, her marriage with Luke would be put on the agenda.
They had known each other for five years and had been in love for three years.
That was the real world she was living. Life wasn’t as magical as her dream.
She left everything behind and concentrated on studying perfume. Finally, she could help him develop the company he had dream about. Seeing a bright future waving to her, she drank a few more glasses of wine earlier.
She rubbed between her eyebrows and wanted to find some water to drink, but she heard a strange sound echoing from the room next to hers.
She lived alone in that rented apartment. Luke would stay occasionally, but he also have his own place. In fact, he was the one on the room next to hers.
Hearing the voices, she couldn't help but worry if he was uncomfortable.
But when she got closer, she heard a woman's voice…
"Luke, will Bella hear us?"
"Isn't that exciting? Honey, don't worry. I added something to her wine last night to make sure she won’t wake up until late morning."
Although the man's voice was mixed with heavy breaths, she could definitely recognize that it was Luke's voice.
She felt a chill forming in her heart. In order to study the severity of her insomnia the fast few years, she would often intake medicine, so she had been immune from sleeping pills.
"When I get the prize for tomorrow's new products, I will be a senior fragrance and have a stable position in this industry. At that time, you can choose a lot of investment and recruit as much as you want. Will Bella still count in your life?”
Standing at the door, Bella clenched her fists. She could tell that it was Vina.
Her college friend was having an affair with her fiancé.
She had heard some rumors about them, but she stubbornly chose to trust him. However, at that moment, the reality slapped her hard.
"Bitch, I even use your name for my company. You should know how much I love you! Bella is just a springboard. If it weren't for you, would I have tampered with her formula in the Rookie Perfume Competition?"
"I don't allow you to mention her name. Tell me, do you love me or her?" Vina's voice was soft, and now it was more alluring because she lengthened the ending of her sticky voice on purpose. But when it fell into Bella's ears, it was particularly harsh.
Bella gritted her teeth and opened her eyes wide, as if she wanted to see those two through the door.
"Of course... I love you!"
The following words was so disgusting that Bella's palm began to bleed by her tight pinch. Only then did she restrain the thought of rushing in.
She had never expected that her hard work and love for him would lead to such a result.
Three years ago, she became famous in the fragrance trading competition. At that time, she was invited by a lot of huge companies, including the popular companies like D&W. But for the business that Luke had just started, she had refused and wholeheartedly supported him.
Two years ago, when she participated in a large-scale competition again, there had been a problem with her perfume, and she was laughed at as a "fragrance master without a nose".
At that time, she couldn't figure out what was wrong. Luke had been staying by her side all the time and considerately asked her to be the backstage manipulator. After that, all her competitions and public appearances were replaced by Vina.
She thought they would support each other and go through trials and hardships together, but she was just a pawn in Luke' games.
Back then, he named the company ‘V.L’. He explained that it was ‘Victory and Love’, and it meant that their love and hard work would help them win their final victory. What was worse was that she actually believed it. In the end, it was abbreviation for “Vina and Luke.”
Vina glances at the doorway, then lies back on Luke's chest.
She swore that she would kill Bella this time.
A decade ago, her mother helped the Lycan King's brother poison the werewolf prince in an attempt to claim the throne.
But they turned to Bella's mom, a powerful witch, for help, nearly ruining their plans.
Vina's mother sends someone to kill Bella's parents, only to have Bella escape, but eventually the Lycan King's brother succeeds, so the family is spared from disaster.
But Vina has always held a grudge in her heart and wanted to seek revenge on Bella. Because she knew that Bella was also a powerful witch, and she, too, would not allow anyone to be more powerful than her family of witches.
So Vina found Bella and lurked around her, and Bella somehow lost her memory, which was just what she wanted.
She's waiting for a chance to kill her, and until then, Bella is like her mouse, trying to play with the prey in her hands before she eats it.
Bella anger finally turned into calmness. Bella couldn't fall asleep for the entire night. It was not until dawn that she heard the sound of that shameless couple leaving.
She was in deep thought when she immediately stood up and rummaged through her storage boxes until she found the gilded business card.
Three years ago, Darius, the CEO of the D&W, gave her a business card. She wondered if his phone number had changed.
Holding the phone tightly in her hand, she nervously wait until the call got connected. "Mr. White, I'm Bella Everlast."
After a short pause, she found that he did not hang up the call. So, she continued, "We met in the fragrance refining competition three years ago. You gave me your..."
"I remember,” Mr. White replied before she could even continue.
The low middle male voice and his simple two words surprisingly relieved her nervousness.
"Well, I have a business proposal. Maybe you will be interested in it."
After a short silence, Darius replied in a deep voice, "Come to my office at nine o'clock tomorrow morning."
Hearing that he was about to hang up the phone, Bella hurriedly stopped him. "Wait a minute... Mr. White, we may not be able to make it tomorrow. Can you meet today instead? Besides, the office is not very convenient in terms of what I want to talk to you about. Can we change to another place?"
She was in a hurry and spoke very fast. After saying that, she couldn't help but sweat for out of nervousness.
What kind of company was D&W? It had 2/3 of the market share in the domestic cosmetics and skin care industry; not to mention a wide range of business and a large capital background of it.
As the CEO of the D&W, Darius was a legend in the business world. It was already a great honor for her to have Mr. White spare time to see her. She couldn’t believe that she was being bold enough to bargain about time and place.
However, she had no other choice.
The new product launch and perfume competition were about to start. It would be too late for them to talk about it tomorrow. Moreover, if she went to the company, it would be easy to attract attention, which would affect her plan.
She clenched her phone tightly and breathed cautiously. She was going to gamble.
There was no response from him for about three minutes. When Bella thought she was about to be rejected, she heard Darius say, "Okay. Thirty minutes later, in the Garden Road cafe."
"Thank you..."
Before Bella could finish thanking Darius, he added, "Remember to bring your passport."
"What?"
The man on the other end of the line, however, hanged up before she could clarify what he meant by his words.
After taking a deep breath, Bella doubted if she had misheard him or not, but time did not allow her to think too much.
She quickly changed her clothes, simply packed up, and went out.
Fortunately, the Garden Road was not far from her apartment, so she arrived on time. When she was about to enter the coffee shop, she was stopped by a stranger.
"Miss Bella?"
The man called her name, but she didn't know him. "Hi?"
"My boss invited you for a chat."
He made a gesture and pointed somewhere. Bella looked in the direction and saw a black extended Lincoln car parking quietly on the roadside.
She understood instantly.
Without hesitation, she walked towards the car. The driver opened the door for her. Then, she saw two slender legs and shining leather shoes.
Bella got on the car. The air conditioner inside was very cold. She shivered unconsciously and looked up at him. "Hello, Mr. White. I..."
"Get to the point."
His four words were still very cold. Bella suddenly stopped and saw his face clearly.
Somehow, his face was a little similar to the face of the little wolf boy in her dream.
The overlapped dream and reality made Bella cry out,
"Little brown wolf?"
