Chapter 24 No one should look down upon any other

"I just love girls like Miss Bailey, who are outgoing and brave enough to pursue a romantic life. You've been engaged four times. Unlike our Hazel, who is a blank sheet of paper and blushes when talking to a guy." Lance's speaking skills are much better than Paula's rambling.

What sounds like praise on the surface is actually a satire of Bailey's chaotic love life, while his own daughter is as pure as a blank sheet of paper.

"General Lance, don't say that. Your daughter is so beautiful and charming, much better than me. There must be boys who like her." Bailey said with a smile, looking at General Lance.

Lance was taken aback, not knowing why Bailey was saying this, that he was mocking her and she didn't notice? Seeing Bailey's harmless smile, Lance couldn't figure out what she meant. Instead, he didn't know how to respond.

"Miss Hazel will surely be better than me in the future. It's no problem for her to get engaged ten or eight times."

Bailey's smile vanished in an instant as she looked at General Lance with a cold gaze and spoke word by word.

The same move was sent over to General Lance exactly as it was. But when it was heard, it felt much more lethal.

General Lance's face turned red as if he had been slapped.

"Miss Bailey, come to my study." Harold, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke. Having said that, he got up and left.

Bailey glanced at Henry and then got up and followed him.

"Miss Bailey, what do you do and what do your parents do?" Harold still had a stern expression, but fortunately, he spoke in a rather gentle tone.

I'm a self-defense instructor for women. My father passed away when I was very young and was killed by bad people. My mother was in poor health and retired at home."

Bailey told Harold in detail.

"Henry's grandfather was a founding general and I myself worked in the Ministry of Defence. In terms of background, you are far worse off than Henry. To be honest, I don't like you and wish you could stay away from Henry."

The contemptuous way Harold spoke made Bailey feel particularly disgusted. She was of humble origin, but not lowly. She makes a living with her own hands. Why should she be looked down upon?

"And to be honest, I don't like you." She wouldn't do such a thing as being belittled by Harold and still smiling here. We are all human beings, equal, and no one should look down upon the other.

"Perhaps in your eyes Hazel is more suitable to be Henry's girlfriend than I am, because she has a good father who is a director. But I don't think so. It's not up to you to say who is right for Henry, nor is it up to me. It's up to Henry to say. If one day he finds a better and more suitable woman than me, I'll leave immediately and never show up. But you can't say that I have a much worse background than Henry. My father is an intellectual and my mother is a skilled worker. They don't work in the Ministry of Defence, but they are just like you, contributing to the construction of this country. Their jobs are ordinary but extraordinary. Henry is a third-generation soldier and I am a second-generation civilian. That's all. I feel there is no difference."

If Harold had directly pointed out all the bad things about Bailey that were not worthy of Henry today, perhaps Bailey could have accepted it. But he came up with the issue of background, which involved the honor of parents, and Bailey had no choice but to fight back.

Harold didn't expect Bailey to be so defiant, and he was taken aback. After careful consideration, there was something wrong with what he had said, even if he had thought so, he shouldn't have said it so directly.

It didn't come as a surprise to Bailey.

Well, he doesn't have the time or energy to get bogged down in such a small matter. Speed is of the essence, cutting through the tangled mess with a sharp knife.

Thinking of this, Harold took out a small clip from his drawer, opened it and wrote a few words on it with a pen.

"Take this," he said. He tore off one and threw it in front of Bailey.

Bailey looked down and it turned out to be a cheque for ten thousand dollars.

Now Tessa was in hospital and Bailey was really short of money. 100,000 could solve a big problem for her. But this check is not to be taken. Otherwise, Harold would look down on you even more.

"You think it's too little?" Harold, seeing her not reaching out his hand, wondered if he needed to increase the number a little.

"There is no shortage of money. Maybe I will take it if I need it in the future."

Bailey nodded at Harold and walked out of his study.

Henry, who was waiting for her in the corridor, went up to him as soon as he saw Bailey coming out.

"My dad didn't shout at you, which really surprised me." Henry had ten conversations with his father, and nine of them ended in arguments.

"But the conversation was very unpleasant."

"It can be imagined."

The two of them returned to the living room, and Lynn came up to Bailey, smiling and saying, "Miss Bailey, I'm sorry, Miss Hazel is missing a dance partner, could you lend us Henry for a while?"

Bailey saw that the dining table in the living room had been moved away, and General Lance and his wife, Paula and Keith were dancing to the accompaniment of piano music. Hazel sat there alone, constantly looking this way.

"Just a moment, and I'll give it back to you right away." Before Bailey could speak, Lynn had already pulled Henry away with a grin. It was obvious that before they and Henry got back here, they had already made up their minds.

As a result, there were three pairs dancing on the dance floor, leaving Bailey alone. Paula looked in her direction from time to time, with a look of disdain in her eyes.

Bailey knew nothing about dancing, and she didn't like looking at Paula's face either. So she simply stepped out and went to the yard to get some fresh air.

The House of Morris looked grand and simple from the outside, and the courtyard was beautifully landscaped and full of charm.

Bailey was wandering along the path in the yard when suddenly someone came up to her and hugged her.

Almost instinctively, Bailey bent her arm and hit her with her elbow.

Keith let out a "ouch" and, clutching his chest, fell down.

"Why you?" Bailey never expected it to be him.

"I was vain and in a moment of confusion, I gave you up and chose Paula. But now I realize that you are the one I truly love in my heart. Paula is not as gentle as you, not as considerate as you. In front of her, I'm even worse than a dog. Bailey, I beg you. I know I was wrong, please give me a chance to correct it."Keith said with a pained expression.
