"My mate was human and died in a car accident." He whispered. I nodded, not sure what to say to that. We fell into a peaceful silence. We passed many rooms until he stopped at one. He opened it and walked inside with me following.
It was a plain and medium sized room. There was a queen sized bed in the middle with no sheets. There were 2 white nights table things, one on each side and there were 2 doors.
"This will be your room. Your bathroom," He opened one door and it revealed a small bathroom, "and your wardrobe." He opened the second door and it was a small walk in wardrobe. The room was cosy.
"Thanks." I said as I put my bag on the bed. He nodded and was walking towards the door.
"I'll be back in half an hour to take you shopping for some bed sheets." He nodded once at me and smiled. He left the room and I let out a loud sigh. So this was my new room, I thought. It’s nice for a new start.
I was setting my clothes out when the door opened. It was half an hour already? I looked at it, expecting to find Rivers but instead I found Bruce.
"Hey neighbour!" He yelled excitedly while jumping on my bed.
I ignored him causing him to sit up and stare at me with guilt in his eyes.
"Come on Calista, don't be like that. You know I was just doing Beta business." He pleaded. I nodded and gave him a weak sigh. He ran a hand through his hair.
"So, which room is yours?" I asked, hoping to change the subject.
"Oh, it's the one to the right. I would show you but it's only good for male eyes." He said. I chuckled and grinned at him.
"Ok, so I’m guessing you haven't found your mate?" I asked. He shook his head and I nodded. We fell into a peaceful silence when the door opened again. In stepped Rivers.
"Hey, you ready?" Rivers asked, putting a watch around his wrist. I nodded and got off the bed followed by Bruce.
"Where you guys going?" Bruce asked.
"Taking Calista shopping." Rivers replied.
Bruce nodded, "Oh, can I come?! Please bro, you know you want me to." Best friends. I knew that they were best friends. No one talks to their Alpha like that. Rivers chuckled.
"Sure man, lets go." I followed the 2 boys down the stairs and into the garage. This time, no one stared at me and I was grateful. We walked past many expensive looking cars until finally stopping in front of a black SUV.
Rivers hopped into the driver’s seat, Bruce in the passengers and me in the back. I wasn't surprised for the expensive cars, Alphas were usually rich but I’m not sure why. Rivers drove off and soon we were on the high way.
"So how old are you?" Bruce said turning to face me.
"I'm 20." I said, confused by the question but decided to answer anyways.
"I'm 21!" He wiggled his eyebrows and I rolled my eyes. Rivers chuckled and shook his head. "My man here is 22." Bruce said while turning to face the front again, patting Rivers’s back as he went. I smiled, realising that Rivers was the same age as Neil.
"Ok, so we shop for bed stuff first and then clothes." Rivers said as he cut the engine.
"Oh, I have clothes, bed stuff is just fine." I said. I didn't want him to spend much money on me. He turned around and gave me a small smile.
"No, I want to."
"Ooooooo, ahaha." Bruce playfully punched Riverss arm and jumped out of the car. Rivers blushed a bit and hopped out too, followed by me.
We walked into the mall and into Farmers.
"Later guys, I’ll catch up later." Bruce yelled, waving at us as he walked away. Rivers and I nodded and Bruce left. Rivers led me to the place that had bed stuff.
"Pick whatever you like." He said, smiling at me. I nodded and grabbed only things I needed.
Rivers pushed the trolley as I put stuff in. I bought a little bit of clothes, not much, but enough. I bought some shoes as well.
"Ok, that's it." I told Rivers. He stopped walking and smiled at me.
"Are you sure?" He asked. I nodded and we went and paid for everything. Once it was all bought, we walked out of the mall. "You wait here, I’ll be back." Rivers told me before walking to his car. I waited for about 3 minutes at the entrance until Rivers came back.
"Let’s go and eat." I nodded and we started walking towards the food court. We walked past a group of young boys and they wolf whistled at me. I rolled my eyes and chose to ignore them but Rivers grabbed my waist and pulled me towards him while growling.
"Mine!" He growled and I looked up and saw him glaring at the boys. The boys looked at their feet and shut up. Once we were out of their sight, I pushed Rivers off of me and stared at him. He didn’t want to look me in the eyes but when he did, I raised an eyebrow.
"What was that about?" I asked him. He rubbed the back of his neck while answering.
"Uhm, sorry. They just looked like they were annoying you." I nodded my head even though I knew that it was a compete lie. I gave him a weak smile and we continued along to the food court.
We met Bruce there and we all ordered our food. We ate in a peaceful silence and when we were done, we got up and walked to the car.
"Ok, I don't know what's up with you guys but this is too awkward." Bruce said as Rivers parked in the garage.
"Just tired." I replied. He nodded and helped Rivers and I with the bags. We walked up the stairs and into my room. We dumped the bags on the floor and we all stretched our backs.
"Thanks guys." I said, giving them thankful smiles. They both nodded and walked out of the door. I closed the door and locked it. I let out a loud sigh and walked to my bags. I unpacked everything and set up my bed.
When I was done, I jumped on my bed and thought.
Today was very awkward. The whole Rivers calling me his at the mall. I could clearly see through his lie but I didn’t want to say anything. He’s a sweet guy but it's too early for me to be in a relationship. Waaaaay too early. I hope he lets it drop and gives me space with time.
And Bruce. He was an energetic, funny guy. Loyal and a good friend. I could sense that he would be like an older brother to me.
I sighed as I closed my eyes, soon drifting off to a deep sleep.
